About The Bayou
City Fencing Academy
Since
its inception in 1994, the Bayou City Fencing Academy has been driven
by two important goals: Promoting the sport of fencing in Houston,
Texas and offering an exceptional fencing experience for the recreational
and competitive fencer.
Fencing is a modern, fast-paced, Olympic sport which can be described
as a mixture of a child's game of tag and an adult game of chess.
The sport of fencing develops physical fitness and one's ability
to think quickly and act decisively. Fencing is an international
sport practiced by people of all ages and abilities. No particular
body size or type is required for success in fencing.
The
Bayou City Fencing Academy offers the opportunity for beginners
to learn about fencing and for advanced fencers to enjoy the sport
for purely recreational purposes as well as to train for national
and international competitions. Training programs are self-paced
and cater to youth (ages 5 - 8), junior (ages 9 - 19) and adult
(ages 20 - sky's the limit!) fencers.
Competitive
training for the younger fencer concentrates on preparation for
local and regional tournaments and on the Junior Olympic Championships,
with an emphasis on having fun! Competitive training for the more
advanced fencer focuses on preparation for North American Cup Circuit
tournaments, National Championships, and international World Cup
competitions. Recreational training is geared toward having fun
and getting fit.
Training sessions begin with group warm-up, conditioning, footwork,
and drills. Fencing continues with bouting sessions between fencers.
Private lessons are available at each session for interested individuals,
particularly enthusiastic beginners. Lessons are tailored to the
skills and experience of each fencer. |
